Cari pastores (from Polish)

Here is a Polish Christmas carol translated into Latin, which Aleksandra Klęczar was kind enough to send to me from Poland (she teaches in the Classics Department at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow). In her note, she explains that the translator of most of the carols which she has sent is the famous Polish classicist Ryszard Ganszyniec (1888-1958).

This carol is called Cari pastores in Latin, Pasterze mili in Polish.

Cari pastores

Cari pastores, quid conspicitis?
Vidimus Infantem parvum,
Jesum nobis caelo natum,
dei Filium, Dei Filium.

Quo palatio stat hospitio?
Stabulum iumentis sertum
Tecto vili coopertum
erat regia, erat regia.

Pasterze mili

Pasterze mili, coście widzieli?
Widzieliście maleńkiego,
Jezusa narodzonego,
Syna Bożego, Syna Bożego.

Co za pałac miał, gdzie gospodą stał?
Szopa bydłu przyzwoita,
I to jeszcze źle pokryta,
Pałacem była, pałacem była.
