O Stella de Bethlehem (from Polish)

Here is a Polish Christmas carol translated into Latin, which Aleksandra Klęczar was kind enough to send to me from Poland (she teaches in the Classics Department at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow). In her note, she explains that the translator of most of the carols which she has sent is the famous Polish classicist Ryszard Ganszyniec (1888-1958).

This carol is called O Stella de Bethlehem in Latin, O gwiazdo Betlejemska in Polish.

O Stella de Bethlehem

O Stella de Bethlehem,
in caelo radias.
Sic quaero te per noctem,
Tu mihi luceas!
In stabulum me ducas,
quo Dei Filius,
de Virgine Homo-Deus
pro peccatoribus.

In stabulo non ades
in cunis positus.
Quo, Christe, contendemus,
ubi (e)s absconditus?
Pergemus ante(e) altare
amorem alere,
Te, Christe, adorare
amoris munere.

O gwiazdo Betlejemska

O gwiazdo Betlejemska,
zaświeć na niebie mym.
Tak szukam Cię wśród nocy,
tęsknię za światłem Twym.
Zaprowadź do stajenki,
Leży tam Boży Syn,
Bóg - Człowiek z Panny świętej,
dany na okup win.

O nie masz Go już w szopce,
nie masz Go w żłóbku tam?
Więc gdzie pójdziemy Chryste?
gdzie się ukryłeś nam?
Pójdziemy przed ołtarze,
Wzniecić miłości żar,
I hołd Ci niski oddać:
to jest nasz wszystek dar.

when I typed the Polish title into Youtube several hits came up, including this pretty good choral version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6oiuzMX04Q
