Misellum, silens (from Polish)

Here is a Polish Christmas carol translated into Latin, which Aleksandra Klęczar was kind enough to send to me from Poland (she teaches in the Classics Department at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow). In her note, she explains that the translator of most of the carols which she has sent is the famous Polish classicist Ryszard Ganszyniec (1888-1958).

This carol is called Misellum, silens in Latin, Mizerna cicha in Polish.

Misellum, silens stabulum vile
Gloria caeli plenum,
en dormientem in te videmus
Infantulum serenum.

Angeli super te constiterunt,
adorant inclinati,
com(a) aurescentes, alias fulgentes,
Iride colorati.

Ecce egentes gregem pascentes
salutant Redemptorem,
spe inspirati, salute freti
adorant Salvatorem.

Eia, plebeii, hospites Dei,
iam finis orbitati,
Se Ipsum donat, in caelis gloria,
pax bonae voluntati.

Mizerna cicha

Mizerna, cicha, stajenka licha,
Pełna niebieskiej chwały.
Oto leżący, na sianku śpiący
W promieniach Jezus mały.

Nad Nim anieli w locie stanęli
I pochyleni klęczą
Z włosy złotymi, z skrzydłami białymi,
Pod malowaną tęczą.

I oto mnodzy, ludzie ubodzy
Radzi oglądać Pana,
Pełni natchnienia, pełni zdziwienia
Upadli na kolana.

Długo czekali, długo wzdychali,
Aż niebo rozgorzało,
